Michael Robinson is an experienced Judicial Magistrate and lawyer.

Judicial Magistrate for General Sessions Court

Michael has served three terms as a Judicial Magistrate for Nashville’s General Sessions Night Court. Appointed by the Judges of the General Sessions Court, Michael works part-time as a Night Court Magistrate to serve the people of Nashville.

As a Night Court Magistrate, Michael has:

conducted probable cause hearings
issued or denied criminal warrants
reduced warrants to summonses
set bonds on offenses ranging from public intoxication to homicide
carefully weighed the public interest when applying bond conditions
processed petitions and issued temporary ex parte orders of protection
conducted hearings for emergency mental health committals
issued search warrants, and
conducted hearings for property seizures.

He has the know-how to be an effective, fair, and knowledgeable Judge.

Successful General Law Practice

Importantly, Michael’s experience extends beyond the criminal docket.

Michael has maintained a successful general practice of law, handling the full range of cases that will be before the General Sessions Court, including a significant level of experience in civil law in both General Sessions and Circuit and Chancery Courts.

Compassionate Advocate for Rehabilitation

Michael is an advocate for rehabilitation. He serves on the Davidson County Drug Recovery Court Foundation (DC4) Board. Michael has focused on the whole person—using therapy and recovery to help rehabilitate those suffering from drug addiction. His work helps prove that rehabilitation is cheaper, more effective, and yields lower recidivism than punishing addiction. His commitment to the DC4 system shows what he believes in—and will actively facilitate in the courtroom—evidence-based therapy and rehabilitation which can help save the individual and provide a benefit to the community at large.

Public Service is a Robinson Family Tradition.

Public service runs deep in the Robinson family.

Garner Robinson, Michael’s great-grandfather, served the people of Nashville during the great depression by giving food away from the family’s grocery store. As the Sheriff, Garner appointed the first black Deputy Sheriff, decades before civil rights were even a consideration for Nashvillians.

Gale Robinson, Michael’s grandfather, served as a Judge of the General Sessions Court and helped create the Night Court where Michael has served as a Magistrate, giving the people of Nashville 24/7 access to the judicial system.

Gale B. Robinson, Michael’s father, currently serves as a Judge of the General Sessions Court, and helped reshape the way we understand domestic violence in Nashville by establishing the domestic violence court, holding those accountable for domestic abuse, where previously domestic victims were overlooked and underserved.
